“Is it just a story to you or do you embrace the message?” American publisher and writer, Bennett Cerf wrote in his Best Selling book,“Try and Stop Me” (circa 1944) One of his well known “shaggy dog” stories about a Hen and a Pig. A Hen and a Pig were sauntering down the main street of an Indiana town when they passed a restaurant that advertised “Delicious ham and eggs: 75 cents.” “Sounds like a bargain,” approved the hen. “That owner obviously knows how to run his business. “It’s all very well for you to be so pleased about the dish in question,” observed the pig with some resentment. “For you it is all in the day’s work. Let me point out, however, that on my part it represents a genuine sacrifice.” Thus I have often heard it said that the Hen is only involved but the Pig; the Pig is committed! NULL
Yes certainly everyone in the business world has heard some version of this story. Some questions immediately come to mind for me. What about you? “Is it just a story to you or do you embrace the message?”
Where are you in your Life? Where are you in your Business? Where are you in your Relationships? Where are you in your Faith?
Are you only involved? Or are you committed? Are you just playing around or are you genuinely interested in changing your life? Are you just hoping for a better tomorrow or are you doing something about it? The Slight Edge is at work 24/7. Is it working for you or against you. You have control.
Make a Choice to do something or decide to do nothing. Either way you have made a Choice!
Perhaps you’ve heard yourself or someone else say, “I will take care of that “someday” soon or “one day” in the near future”. Hmmmm… Guess what? Neither of those are days of the week. Neither of those can be put on a calendar or in your planner. Those are both examples of the slight edge working against you! Taking solid action, being committed means having a “vision” for what you want in life. It’s your choice. You decide. You Choose.
Sad thing is that most people are double-minded and really haven’t pinpointed what they want in life and so they never get it. They never get anything except what someone else may want for them.
Personally, I believe that each of us is given certain gifts, certain talents and that God has a plan for us. A plan for you and a plan for me. So the Key is to find that Gift, that talent. Once you do, you will find God’s plan for you in every area of your life! The problem is most people want to plan on their own and not seek counsel. Through Wisdom a house is built, and by understanding it is established, by knowledge the rooms Are filled with all precious and pleasant riches. Proverbs 24:3-4 If we plan for ourselves and do not bring God into the picture as our Counsel, we make plans that fail. We become discouraged and our minds tell us we ‘Cannot’. When we plan with God and follow His plans we are successful and God tells us we CAN! What is God’s vision for your life? What gifts’ and talents has He given you? How can you use them to make a difference in the lives of others and in the world?
When you discover God’s plan for you. When you discover your call, you will be filled with a Vision, the plan will fall into place, the people and resources needed will come to your side and you will become fully committed for you will no longer be “double-minded”.
Your life will change forever, for you will be changing lives forever and fulfilling God’s plan. 2011 is upon us… the first 31 days are gone. What is your plan. What is God’s plan for you? Find the gifts and the talents that he has given you and put that plan into action so you can begin changing your life today! Ted Henry
