Never say “Don’t Quit!”
Your subconscious mind does not process the word “don’t”, therefore, you just gave yourself the command to QUIT without realizing it.
Now I wrestled with this for years because as a young child my mother gave me a copy of the “Don’t Quit” poem on a card that I taped to the mirror in my bedroom and I had committed this poem to memory by 12 years old. The more I learned about positive thinking and the power of affirmations the more I realized that this poem was full of negative affirmations. So, I decided to do something about it. I was a guest speaker for an Amway spectacular event in the ’70s run by Crown Diamonds, Jim and Sharon Janz. Instead of reciting the poem as I often would do at an event like this, I rewrote it into a positive version.
I changed the name from ‘Don’t Quit’ to the positive affirmation, ‘Press On’.
Here is a comparison of the two poems so you can see the difference between the negative affirmations and the positive affirmations.
When things go wrong as they sometimes will
When things go right as they always might.
When the road your trudging seems all uphill,
When the road you’re traveling seems sunny and bright,
When the funds are low and the debts are high,
When the funds are high and debt is no more,
And you want to smile but you have to sigh,
Just keep on smiling and continue to soar.
When care is pressing you down a bit,
When excitement wakes you up at the break of dawn,
Rest if you must but don’t you quit.
Rest if you must but keep pressing on!
Life is queer with its twists and turns,
Life is wonderful with the blessings it bestows,
As every one of us sometimes learns,
As anyone of us certainly knows,
And many a failure has turned about,
And many a winner with confidence in their eyes,
When he might have won had he stuck it out.
Went on to capture the coveted prize.
Don’t give up though the pace seems slow,
Keep pressing on though the pace seems fast,
You might succeed with another blow.
You will achieve even more with another blast.
Often the goal is nearer than,
Always the goals are nearer you’ll find
It seems to a faint and faltering man,
Because you pictured it in your mind,
Often the struggler has given up,
So be the winner with both thumbs up,
When he might have captured the victors’ cup,
That’s how you WILL WIN the victors’ cup,
And he learned too late when the night slipped down,
And you will celebrate your victory as the night slip down,
How close he was to the golden crown.
Because you captured the victors’ crown.
Success is failure turned inside out –
Success was destined – without a doubt,
The silver tint of the clouds of doubt,
Because you knew you would stick it out,
And you never can tell how close you are,
How far it is, you do not care,
It may be near when it seems afar,
because in your mind you are already there!
So, stick to the fight when you are hardest hit-
So keep up the pace – though the competition is gone,
It’s when things seem worst that you must not quit.
It’s when things seem best that you keep pressing on!
Here it is all in one format

Paul Morris was one of the top network marketers and trainers who has built marketing organizations for over 50 years.
He has been known as the mentor’s mentor.
He was a former Amway Executive Diamond and had been #1 in the nation with several network marketing companies.
Paul had used the principles he taught to build several organizations to in excess of fifty and one hundred thousand distributors. One organization was approaching one half of a million distributor/customers.
Paul had held monthly volumes in his downline organization alone, in excess of 15 million dollars per month.
Many people ‘practice what they preach,’ but it is said of Paul, that Paul ‘preaches what he practices’ and had practiced his entire life.
On the social/spiritual side of life, Paul had spent much of his free time in Scouting, Jail and Prison Ministry and other outreach ministries. Most of all he was a GREAT family man.
Whether it was a group of 14 in a living room or a crowd of 14,000 in an auditorium, Paul iwas sure to have them laughing, crying, and ultimately motivated and inspired to become all of that which they are capable of becoming.
Paul’s philosophy was that, success in this industry is not measured by the dollars you earned but rather by the lives you have touched and influenced in a positive way.
