From the Bottom of My Heart by Mary K Weinhagen

Mary K WeinhagenWay back in the summer of 2005 I caught wind of the seed of an idea growing in the minds of a couple of very savvy Network Marketers who shared an amazing passion for the industry itself. This novel (at the time) idea was to create a virtual magazine designed to inspire and support the network marketer.

So many possibilities with an online magazine, they said…

Low overhead, they said…

Training, tips, motivation, inspiration, they said…

Can reach anyone, anywhere in the world, they said…

More flexible deadlines, ability to include and use new technologies, they said…

Easy and instant accessibility will make it the perfect tool for the network marketer without a strong team as well as for the active leader working with an eager team, they said…

My ears perked up. I listened.

They ran the idea past a few people. Smart people, smart leaders. And they received a variety of feedback —

“Nope. It’ll never work. You can’t recreate the meme of ‘magazine’. People want to hold a physical magazine, turn physical pages, linger over pictures.”

“Hmmm… it has potential. It might work. Give it a try.”

“It could work, as long as you have a physical version too.”

There was a little back and forth conversation and consideration. But not for long. In keeping with the words of Nolan Bushell, founder of Atari, who when asked about his entrepreneurial success said, “The critical ingredient is getting off your butt and doing something. It’s as simple as that. A lot of people have ideas, but there are few who decide to do something about them. Not tomorrow. Not next week, but today. The true entrepreneur is a doer, not a dreamer.” these guys got off their butts and decided to go ahead with the project… even if it was a bit ‘off the wall’.

In early August of 2005 I got a call from George Madiou and John M. Fogg asking if I’d be interested in working with them on something we were going to call, The Network Marketing Magazine.

OF COURSE!!!

To me it was a brilliant idea and an amazing opportunity to work with and learn from the best. I was beyond excited that they had also talked to one of my dearest friends, Maran Banta (who happened to be my sponsor in my network marketing company and a wonderful leader herself) and she had agreed to join us on this venture! We were off and running and much to my amazement ready to launch the first issue two months later on October 1, 2005.

What ‘they said’ turned out to be oh, so, true!

I am forever grateful and filled with appreciation for being included in working on this project. Though before the first anniversary we saw both Maran and John head off in different directions to work on different projects, the past 10 years have brought me gifts beyond measure.

The lessons I’ve learned in writing, editing, interviewing, organizing, operating a website, etc., are endless. And because I have had the job of reading every single word of every single article over this past decade I have had the added benefit of constantly learning how to improve my game as a networker… as well as the tremendous joy of connecting with the authors who contribute their wisdom and experience to each issue of the magazine. A big shout out to each and every one of you… THANK YOU!

And to you readers… I hope we have served you and kept you effectively in the loop with the many changes and advancements to the network marketing industy over the past 10 years. Please know that is our intention to serve you more and better in the next 10! If you find benefit in the magazine, please share it with a friend or 10. If you would like to know how to use the magazine even more effectively in growing your team and your business you are welcome to give me a call or shoot me an email (marykweinhagen@gmail.com) and I’ll be happy to walk you through with a few suggestions. And please, when you find yourself appreciating a particular article, take a few seconds to give the author 5 stars on the scale found right under the articles title, everyone wins when you do that. So here’s a big shout out to you too… THANK YOU!

And finally, to my beloved partner in this grand adventure, Mr. George Madiou… I thank you for your commitment, your perseverence, your sense of humor, your passion and compassion, and your willingness to give me a shot at becoming more and better. You, my friend, are beyond compare! THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!! (and let me add a big THANK YOU to Debbie Madiou… lady, you must be a saint! Thanks for putting up with the ups and downs and for sharing that husband of yours so graciously. You are remarkable!)

Here’s to you all!!!
