DEFINITION  –  As businesses grow, adding multiple departments with varying goals, it is important to foster and maintain a unified approach to management to make sure everyone feels they are an integral part of the company and continue to work toward its overarching goal.

The systems approach to organization works toward that end, creating an efficient organizational environment that is simple for everyone to navigate.

In business management, the systems approach to organization focuses on both the interdependence and interactive nature of a company. This examination of — and approach to — both internal and external factors that affect the business help management run the company as a complete unit.

Most companies rely on their various sub-systems within their organization, which often include human resources or personnel sector, a commercial sector, a technological sector, and an accounting sector. With the systems approach, an organization would create a management sector to interactively guide and govern the other company sectors.


The most important part of achieving success is to use the right system for your operation and ITS implementation to accomplish your objectives and goals. Without the proper system in place, it usually leads to chaos and failure. Systems thinking is one of the most powerful tools we have to understand and change the world around us. The original application of systems thinking in organizational management and change started to evolve in the ’90s, with the need to reconfigure efficiency and productivity within organizations.

Today in business and industry we must leverage the power of systems thinking, from healthcare, sales, the green revolution, advanced technological applications and more. Making sure that we can effectively, efficiently and profitably deliver products and services also requires systems thinking approach.

It is important to find the right people to fit the system or properly train individuals on how to be effective within the system. A great example is in network marketing where distributors or affiliates recruit others and hope that they go to work and sell the products and services involved. Without bringing a new recruit into an effective system, that is working for others in the program, the chance of success for the new recruit is low.

Any network marketing program that doesn’t provide a system with ongoing training will usually fail.

Businesses and organizations employing a systems approach will gain a better understanding of how things are interconnected and how they interact. This allows for effective ways to resolve problems with positive solutions.

1 – Optimization – With a deeper understanding of the dynamics within system organizations and individuals can take full advantage of any element within their system.

6 – Interconnectivity – Everything in a system is dynamically interconnected and allows humans to work within the system for success and not work independently. Creativity and productivity depend on interconnectivity, and systems thinking provides the way to integrate this into everyday practices.

7 – Creativity – The more you work within the system the more you develop a dynamic understanding of it and how it works. This allows individuals to be creative to make the system better.
