When I began my search for the ultimate ‘secret to success’ more than forty years ago, I had no idea if it even existed. But if it did, I was determined to find it.

The question I asked was: What makes some people more successful than others? I read all of the books on how to think and what to do to be successful. I met with the most prominent leaders of the field of success and motivation––authors, speakers, trainers, and thought-leaders who were looking for the same answers I was looking for. I dug into the psychology of motivation, certain that the success solutions I was looking for had something to do with the mind––the brain itself.

But it was later, after I had begun to write books about self-talk, and how the human brain becomes programmed by the messages we receive––especially our self-talk––that the answer to my search was finally revealed to me.

As it turned out, the answer to “what makes us successful” was something that was clearly known as a part of the wisdom of the ages. And yet, my own discovery came from the latest research in the fields of psychology and neuroscience. It was an answer that had been there all along, hidden in plain sight.

The Discovery:

The people who are the most successful in life, think with a different vocabulary than the people who fail.

Each of us learns 20,000 to 30,000 words in our lifetime. The ‘success people’ focus on a short, select, subset of fewer than 200 of these words! By using these special words often, they become wired into the brain of the person who uses them, guiding them in everything they do. Hidden in plain sight, these are the “secret words of success.”

In my years of training people in network marketing, it has been clear to me that the people who do the best actually think different from the rest of their associates. Those who do the best use a success vocabulary––an entire way of thinking––that keeps them focused and in control of every step they take. Watch how they think, listen closely when they talk, and you can hear it.

We now know from the field of neuroscience that each of us literally wires and rewires our brain (neuroplasticity) throughout our entire lifetime.

Every day, your self-talk is doing that for you. If it’s the wrong self-talk––the negative kind––you wire your brain to fail. If it’s the right self-talk––the positive kind––you wire your brain to succeed.

Watch your thoughts. Change them. Fix them. As a network marketer you’re going to think or speak hundreds of words in a day; you might as well get them right. You might as well use the vocabulary of success. It may be the latest in brain science, but it is the wisdom of the ages.
