No matter what I do, what I say, how I act, how loud I scream, how much I pray, Time just keeps marching on! For over 1/3 of a century I have been attempting to Manage Time… but no matter what I do, what I say, how I act, how loud I scream, how much I pray, Time just keeps marching on! I think it actually has a mind of its own! Hector Berlioz (a 19th century French composer) once said something that actually makes me a little afraid of time! He said – “Time is a great teacher, but unfortunately, it kills all its pupils.” Interesting this “time thing”… seems that no matter how rich or poor we all have the same amount of it. C.S.Lewis once said –“The future is something which everyone reaches at the rate of 60 minutes an hour, whatever he does, whoever he is.” NULL
One thing I have learned in my life is that it always takes more time for me to do something than I could have ever dreamed it would. SO, as you might well imagine, I can sometimes get a little frustrated with Time. I recently read something Albert Einstein said and I felt somewhat relieved. He said, “The only reason for time is so that everything doesn’t happen at once.” Hmmmm… That made sense, so I feel like I am gaining a new perspective on Time. Sometimes I feel like I am not getting enough done but then it seems the faster I go the further behind I get. Have you ever experienced that? Confucius helped me out with that one. He said, “It does not matter how slowly You go as long as you do not stop.” That’s comforting.
A few weeks ago I finished reading a great book called the Slight Edge by Jeff Olson and I came to the realization that not only can Time work for me but Time can also work against me.
Wow, is Time Fickle or what!? Seems whenever I get on my computer, Time Speeds up, while my internet slows down. (I started this article at 7PM and it is already 11PM? How did that happen? Why does Time also seem to go faster when I am sleeping? One night I tried unplugging the clock… didn’t help much. Time still kept on going and I was late to a morning appointment. Seems I am always looking for more time but Scripture says there is a Time for everything! A time to be born and a time to die, a time to plant and a time to reap, a time to weep and a time to laugh, a time to be silent and a time to speak. And a whole list of other things. I guess there really is time to do it all! Hmmmm. A friend suggested that I write down all the things I do and about how much time they take. So I did! Sleeping, eating, showering, working my business, Church, family time, commuting (not much there since I work at home), exercising, study time, social time… And you know what? When I added up all the hours and subtracted them from 168 (that is how many hours there are in a week) I still had time left over! So here is what I learned. Please allow me to share these with you! I will focus on Prioritizing what it is I want to get done in the time I have! I will focus on Accomplishing the things that move me toward my goals in life! I will focus on How I can Become more so I can Do more! I will focus on Working part-time and Living full-time!
I will focus on Managing Me, because even though I have all the time in the world… Life is too short to waste any of the precious time I have!
